There are so many amazing places to visit in our beautiful town. A 10 minute drive will take you to the lakefront or one of the peaceful walking/biking tracks that wind round its perimeter. If you are keen to head bit further afield, take a 1 hour drive west and you will find yourself surrounded by stunning bush and native forests. Do a bit of exploring, and you can discover clear blue water, native wildlife, and so much more.

Rob Roy Glacier

We have the perfect 4WD to drive out and see Rob Roy Glacier located in Mount Aspiring National Park. Certainly an experience not to be missed for anyone visiting Wanaka, New Zealand. The road out to the Glacier is an easy drive on an unsealed back-country New Zealand road. Drive 60mins to the car park at Raspberry Creek. Drive through several streams and fords in your suitable 4WD. Then spend 2-hours hiking up to see Rob Roy Glacier. Get ready for a full day enjoying the breath taking scenery, mountains and glacier. Be sure to take everything you need with you as there are no shops... it is true back country New Zealand.

Please note: 2WD cars are not permitted to visit the Glacier due to road conditions.

Isthmus Track

Want a challenge with rewarding views? Then Isthmus Track is it. Pack your rucksack and drive your Wanaka Rentacar vehicle to the start of this amazing walk. On the way you will go through Albert Town on the banks of the mighty Clutha River. Then it’s on to Lake Hawea where views greet you at every bend as the road winds along the side of this stunning Alpine Lake. From the carpark at the start of your trek, the Isthumus track winds up through Beech Forest, leading to more open country with stunning views of Lake Hawea, as you ascend further views of Lake Wanaka appear. Near the top of the walk it’s possible to view both lakes from strategic points. Take plenty of drink, food and make it an all day adventure.

Blue Pools

Enjoy a day trip to the Blue Pools in Mt Aspiring National Park. From Wanaka the drive will take you through to Lake Hawea with it’s stunning views and Lake side village. Continuing along the western side of Lake Hawea, the road is easy to drive with various stop off points to enable you to take in the views and collect photos of the Alpine beauty. At the top of Lake Hawea the road will take you through “The Neck” and the eastern side of upper Lake Wanaka with even more stop off points to make the most of this beautiful area. Once through Makaoroa the road enters Mt Aspiring National Park and quickly to the Blue Pools car park. An easy walk from the car park soon has you crossing the Makaoroa River swing bridge and on to the Pristine Blue Pools.

Mt Aspiring National Park

Take a trip to Mt Aspiring National Park. Choose a compact 4 WD vehicle and head inland. First you will experience amazing Lake and Mountain scenery travelling from Wanaka via Glendu Bay to the beautiful Matukituki Valley and stunning Alpine views. As you near the end of the road and the Raspberry Creek car park, you will cross a number of flowing mountain streams and enter the beautiful Mt Aspiring National Park. From here you can choose a number of day walks to experience and take photos to last a lifetime.
